Launceston Heat of the Australian Poetry Slam featuring Guest Poet Sara Mansour

Target audience: All ages welcome.

Event Type: The Launceston Heat of the Australian Poetry Slam 2018 will feature Guest Poet Sara Mansour, who is a lawyer, poet, women's rights advocate, founder and host of Sydney's Bankstown Poetry Slam and board member of NOW Australia - which aims to end sexual harassment, intimidation and abuse in the workplace.

Event Description: A Poetry Slam is where performance poetry meets competitive creativeness! It is loud, fast, fun and exciting! Up to 20 Tasmanian poets will be bringing their two-minute original work to the stage to impress the cheering, finger-clicking audience and the judges (who have been randomly selected from the audience) in the hope of winning a Place in the Tasmanian Final, and a chance to compete against Slammers from around Australia at the Sydney Opera House in October.

Closed School Community Event

This year as part of the Tamar Valley Peace Festival Riverside High students will have the opportunity to do poetry workshops with Sara Mansour, a poet, lawyer and women's rights advocate, the founder and host of Bankstown Poetry Slam (BPS) in Sydney and a founding board member of NOW Australia. Inspired by the global #MeToo movement, NOW Australia is a non-profit organisation spearheaded by journalist Tracey Spicer to help end sexual harassment, intimidation and abuse in the workplace.

This is a Closed School Community Event  

For the general public, you will be able to hear Sara on the 1st of August at 6pm, Venue: Annexe Theatre, School of Creative Arts, University of Tasmania Inveresk campus, Seating is limited for this free event and bookings are essential. Refreshments will be available in the foyer from 5.30pm
