#D2KDay Caring for Ouselves with Joe Sehee - Part of Our Global Village Celebrations

Organisation: Dying to Know Day is about bringing to life conversations and community actions around death, dying and bereavement. It is the brainchild of The Groundswell Project.

Care Beyond Cure Inc provide free fortnightly access to complimentary therapies, Art Therapy and Art workshops for individuals with a diagnosed progressive life limiting illness and their family carer/s if they have one. This program also has a bereavement component.

Care Beyond Cure Inc are also one of eight chosen sites across Australia as part of the The Groundswell Project's Compassionate Communities Forum - Click on 'Enter Site' for further information about the project vis this link https://www.comcomhub.com/

Website: http://www.facebook.com/CareBeyondCure

Target audience : This session is suitable for people currently working in this area such as family carers, support workers, nurses, doctors, social workers, chaplains or anyone who feels this session could be of value.

Event Type: Interactive Talk/Workshop via SKYPE

Event Description: Being around grief and loss, as with almost any job that connects us to human pain and suffering, exposes us to 'secondary traumatic stress.' Left unchecked this exposure can lead to debilitating conditions such as vicarious trauma, burnout and compassion fatigue. This workshop will examine the strategies and tools such as reflection, mindfulness and peer support, which can be used to mitigate the emotional/existential impacts of this work, as well as to help us be able to mediate meaning and purpose through this work.

Joe Sehee has worked in the end-of-life field for nearly 20 years. Founder and former Executive Director of the Green Burial Council in the US, Joe has more recently been working as a non-religious pastoral carer and wellbeing consultant. Joe currently serves as volunteer chaplain with the Victorian Council of Churches Emergencies Ministry as well as with Caulfield Hospital. He is also a burnout survivor.

This is a Skyped event with Joe and is part of NDAN's #D2KDay Global Village Celebrations from 9am at the same address.

Yarn Bomb an Octopus' Garden

 Yarn Bomb an Octopus' Garden

Target audience : open event

Participants will be involved in creating an Octopus' Garden on the quadrangle fence at West Launceston Primary School. Students, parents and friends of WLPS have been busily knitting, croqueting and creating wool yarn artwork to create a marine underwater scene. We feel peace when we imagine a world where we hold respect for all living things. On Saturday Aug 4 everybody is welcome to put the pieces together as a dynamic community art project.

Event Type: Inclusive Community art project using wool yarn

Event Description: Working together towards a common creative goal is a lot of fun. Participants can expect to be involved in a welcoming, colourful, workshop to create a beautiful work of art. A marine underwater scene is being created to celebrate the amazing diversity of marine species we currently know of. We envisage the artwork will encourage informal discussion of ways we can all use less plastic to assist life in the ocean. Come and join the fun and bring your creative flair! Sharing a passion for ocean life through community art creates happy moments of peace and respect for all living things.
